Linate Airport is one of the two major airports of Milan, Italy,the other being the Malpensa Airport . It is located 4.8 miles east- southeast of the city and due to its closer proximity to Milan, Linate Airport is mainly used for domestic and short-haul international flights. It handled over 9.6 million passengers in the year 2006. It is located in the town of Peschiera Borromeo and its name comes from a small village in the locality. The official name of the airport is "Airport Enrico Forlanini", after the Italian inventor and aeronautical pioneer born in Milan.
While the Linate airport buildings are located in the Segrate Municipality, the runway is located mostly in the Peschiera Borromeo Municipality. Linate is connected to the Malpensa airport by highways and by service buses.
